I have crack in my windshield that is about 7inches longs in an "L" shape that originated from the bottom edge. How long will it take to repair it and what would be the estimated cost?

You won't be able to repair a crack that large. You will need a new windshield. I suppose you can call a few places and ask them, but typically 7inches is too much.
When you do have chips before they turn into cracks, you should get it professionally repaired, the results will be clearer than if you tried yourself. Typically this will be around $50 to repair if you pay out of pocket and take the pro about 30minutes. Home kit maybe around $10, but that typically only has the resin and not the drills and other things you need to prep the damaged region, so your results will not be as good.
Also check your insurance policy. Many (like geico) offer glass repair as a free claim.
