How do I set up a new connection for a computer without the necessary drivers?
Alright, I did a clean install of Windows XP onto my computer. But apparently, when I did that I wiped out all the drivers that I needed on there is well. I can't get on the internet or anything. Is there anyway that I can install the drivers that I need to get on the internet and do other stuff I need? If so, how do I do that? And is it on the Windows XP installation disc?
You will need to find the correct driver for your network card (at the minimum), and download it on another machine, save it to a flash drive, then install on the computer you reformatted.
Some suggestions:
- Check your paperwork that came with the computer. If there is a drivers disk, use that. Otherwise, look for the specifications on your network card.
- Use UKD (Unknown Devices) to find the hardware and vendor ID of your device. (link below) Run the program. The device ID is the 4 numbers after DEV, and the Vendor ID is the 4 after VEN. Use a site such as PCI database (below) to search for the exact device name, using these. Once you have the vendor and the device, use google to find a the driver.
