Vertical Stripes on Screen?
My friend has a Fujitsu Siemens computer, screen and motherboard. Windows XP.
Everytime we turn it on, horizontal stripes appear instantly, in a constant line. Black turns Red, Blue turns pink, but the text that it covers stays white. During startup, we get stuck at the ''Run windows in Normal/Safe Mode'' then it crashes. What can the problem be? What can I do? I'd rather do it myself though if I can, which I have experience in but with this problem I have no idea.
This sounds like a broken video device (either card or integrated). If this is the case, the only way to fix it is normally to replace the defective/broken component. If you have a stand-alone video card, that can be replaced. If you have integrated video, the entire motherboard would have to be replaced...which may not be worth the trouble if the computer is very old.
There is also a chance that the monitor is broken, although it doesn't sound like it. The way to check this is to connect a different monitor to the computer and see if the problem goes away.
If the computer is under warranty, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer or warranty provider for repairs. If it isn't under warranty, you could either take it to a repair shop or attempt to replace the broken parts on your own if you feel up to it.
If the computer is more than a few years old, you may consider simply replacing it.
