How come squinting makes me see better?
I wear contacts and glasses when the cdontact lenses are not in. I was just watching a movie with my glasses on and I took them off to clean the lenses. Then there was a sudden action scene in the movie and I immediatelly squinted to see better. Why does that improve my vision?
It's the pinhole camera effect.
Make a 1mm hole in a piece of paper, and hold it close to your eye, without your Rx. Be surprised.
The amount of visual blur a person has is down to their refractive error multiplied by the size of their pupil. Holding the eyelids shut to a small slit reduces the effective pupil size.
But since this works by "throwing away "a large percentage of incident light, and also reduces peripheral vision, "pinhole glasses" are not a good idea, though they are sold by some quack websites.
