I changed the spark plugs on my 1993 Ford van with 300 six cylinder.
In doing so, I broke one of the plastic lines that lead to the EGR valve.
In trying to splice the broken plastic line, I broke another one. I replaced the broken line and/or spliced it back together using 1/8 inch
emission hose. The check engine light, which had been on, turned off once i fixed the broken tubing lines. But now the engine runs rough.
It misses, especially on acceleration. I have double checked the plugs
and wires and they are ok. So it must be something with the EGR valve. But what is it? I did run the engine for about two weeks without the tubing lines repaired before eventually getting around to fixing them. Thanks for your help.
Remove and clean the EGR valve, it probably is loaded with carbon and is not closing when it need to. This affects idle fuel mixture adversely. Aldo, locate and clean out your throttle body and plate, idle air control valve, and PCV valve and hoses. When the EGR is cleaned, it should seat properly and prevent idle mixture problems. I hope you had the good sense to use either Bosch Platinums or Nippondenso Iridium plugs when you changed them!! If not, do so now. You will get extra MPG's and power over the stock units.
