My truck idles really horribly whenever it's been sitting cold. This has been going on for a little while now. In the past I was able to stop the trouble when I pull off the tube that goes on my egr valve. Now it started back even with the tube off. I got a new egr valve but the problem still exsist. I tried changing the mass air flow sensor, IAC valve, air filter and resetting the codes on computer but nothing helps. I don't have this trouble after the truck has been running about a good 10 to 20 minutes. And it seems like it idles fine if I pull off the connector to the mass air flow sensor. I have no idea what it is. I don't know a whole lot about cars but I know a little to get me by. Can a expert help me out on this one? Would be greatly appreciated.
The very first thing I would have done is to install a new set of spark plug wires if the truck has never had a new set installed. Start with the most probable and fundamental tune-up items like ignition spark related and new fuel/ air filters etc before you replace expensive MAF, EGR etc sensors unless the diagnostic tests show them to be bad. Also, look up your Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor for your make year model on http://www.autozone.com and follow their diagnostic troubleshooting procedure for the ECT sensor that tells the computer your engine is cold on a cold start.
