Location of a transmission output speed sensor?
I cant find a - transmission output speed sensor - on my 1999 Dodge Ram Van 3500
THX for your help
Vehicle speed sensors, or at least a cable leading to it, are always hooked up on the transmission near the rear, because it needs to read off of the output shaft, which rotates at the same speed as the driveshaft, as opposed to further forward, before the gear ratios affect rotational speeds.
In your case, the sensor screws directly into the transmission case, with no "speedo cable" involved before or after. However, this same location as the older models with a cable is still often used as it's handy. But instead of a gear, there is just a sensor tip on yours.
Looking at it from the outside, there is a round flange flush to the case, with a hex fitting further up, followed immediately by the connector for the wires going to it. When you take it out, there is a simple cylindrical or rod shaped probe with a flat end.
