Passing emissions question?
Hi guys, im purchasing a 94 bmw 3 series coupe tomorrow.
The car has been for sale for 2 years now and works drives and sounds like it works perfectly, im having a friend come by with me tomorrow to check it out more throughly, including compression testing. my question right now is that when i checked the oil it looked pretty dark, but the exhaust didnt billow and smoke or anything no smells too. will the car not being used for 2 years affect the emissions testing?
and also, the cheap dealer im buying from has no plates for the car, how will i get it home from them? its a hour drive through the city. will they issue a temp plate? if not and i get pulled over what will happen?
it mostly depends on where you live. I have only one plate on my truck that hasn't passed emissions yet and i have been pulled over twice because of not having both plates, not having a muffler, not having a bumper, and not having mudflaps, (oh and doing 53 in a 30). Both officers were very understanding that i had recently bought the truck and am working on getting it through emissions (no tickets).
I currently have had the truck since march, its still in the previous owners name, and still haven't passed emissions. =D but the tabs need renewed in august so i gotta get things done by then.
Sounds like a nice car, oil is allowed to be dark, its always dark when the oil is changed, and engines are dirty. Try and pass emissions and dont worry about the police. Its either that or i have really good luck lol
