Ok heres my question , i want to replace the OEM air cleaner assembly on my chevy with thoses chrome all around opened ones .. you know the ones im talking about.( edleborck, mr gasket , K&N ect..)
I have only a sligt problem , there are 2 hoses that part from the air cleaner assembly . One is the pcv , breather filter i know about this one no problem .
But there's this other one, its a small blue ac delco sensor that sit on the top rim inside the air cleaner, about one inch long and it is opened where you can see 2 small metal flaps in it and its linked with a vacum hose to the carburator or close to it.
Ive searched everywere and cant find what it is.
I wanna know what it is cuz i wanna know if i got to keep it when i change the hole air cleanner to put my new chrome one in will it change something if i discard it, or do i have to keep it.
I had to go and get one of my older books to get your answer. This is from a 1992 Emission Control Application Guide that covers your model year. Requirements are PCV, TAC, EVAP, TWC, FR, BP/EGR, SPK, AIS, O2, CEC, EFE. The one that is for TAC, represents thermostatic air cleaner and the switch that you make mention of is the vacuum control switch for the TAC. You air cleaner has a heat riser pipe that comes from the exhaust manifold to the air cleaner. This provides warm air for cold morning starts and cold weather conditions. The purpose is to prevent icing of the venturi in the carburetor. Hope this helps. It is also an emissions requirement for smog testing.
