My check engine light came on in my 1996 mercury cougar I had it checked at autozone and the error code that came up was p1443 and this is what the printout said that they gave me:

3.evap purge valve stuck closed
The autzone guy told me he cleared the code and that it could just be a faulty gas cap so i left and before i got a chance to get a new gas cap the check engine light came on any suggestions? thank you
maybe a plugged fuel filter but im not sure because then you wouldnt run very long. I know that on my dads car the top seal on his fuel pump rotted out and his check engine light came on. good luck
