my 2001 Buick Century started running really bad about a month ago.Put in a ton of fuel injection cleaner,and heet.Changed the fuel filter,PVC valve,Air Intake Control Valve(which was shot)and things improved.Now the service engine light is on,and I've noticed it idles a little rough,and engine sounds a little louder,just in the last couple of days.It doesn't lope like it did,but still a hesitation once in a while.The car has 81,000 miles on it and never given me trouble before.The manual says the fuel additives could have caused damage to one or more of the spark plugs.A friend said it could be the O2 sensor.
Being woman I want to find out as much as I can before I go to a garage and risk being shafted.Any advice,anyone?
Go to one of the discount auto parts stores (like Advance), and have the codes read on your car. They will do it for free. There are too many things that could cause your problem, but getting that "check engine" light out should be the first priority, since it only comes on when your engine computer detects a defect in the system and records a code. That code will give you an idea of what to fix first......
