Can regular self adhesive vinyl be used on vehicles?
Can any self adhesive vinyl be used for vehicle decals (on paint or windows)? What makes regular vinyl different from automotive decal vinyl?
Thanks for the answers. I went into a vinyl shop yesterday and asked this question. I found that the outdoor durability is a factor but it's mostly the thickness - vehicle vinyl being thicker - to prevent shrinkage in heat.
Self adhesive vinyl comes in many different types.
The main difference between all of them is the "outdoor durability" factor & glossiness. Most vinyl used for vehicles have a minimum of 6yrs outdoor durability. We always recommend using at least 6yrs for vehicles.
Other sign shops have used 4-5 yrs as well. (not recommended, unless its for short term applications)
Or if you're looking for a temporary solution, you can apply 1-2 yr outdoor vinyl that is easily removed as well.
I suggest trying to find out the "outdoor durability" for the vinyl that you want to use. Then make your decision.
Hope this helps!
