1987 Pontiac Fiero GT high idle.?
ok, so I ve changed TPS and IAC sensors, EGR, EGR tube gaskets, intake manifold gaskets,and a throttle body gasket. When I put in gear it idles at 2900RPM, when it Park or Neutral 4000RPM.
What should I do (besides getting a diff car)?thx
ok, so i ran code check and it came up CODE 21..high voltage on TPS sensor, I checked it and it shows 5.0 volts, i think that is good voltage. Maybe I ll have to get a new ECM (brain or it).
I changed gaskets under both sides of EGR tube, and checked the tube itself for leaks. there is no leaks or cracks of any kinds on the tube.
Sounds like you have a major vacuum leak somewhere. Check all around the upper plenum and any hose coming off it for splits, cracks, ect. With that high of an idle, it shouldn't be too difficult to find. If you can't find it by eye, you can take a can of carb clean and carefully spray all around the engine intake and vacuum hoses (with engine running.) When you locate the source the engine rpm will rise and you'll have found the spot. Repair as necessary. Hope this helps!
