watercolor masking fluid not coming off?

this is a fresh painting, started 2 hours ago. I used masking fluid exactly the same as I always have with success. now, I can't remove it all without rubbing the paint off or destroying the paper. I used my fingers and a fresh new eraser, even so, not all comes off.

need advice as to which way of removal is less abrasive. haven't tried leaving it in sub zero temperature prior to removing it???
Thanks tlw and Reymond. I finally got it off. The problem WAS the paper. I happened to use a very old stretched paper. To get it off, I used a dried up little ball of the same masking fluid and kept rubbing it on. A very sore thumb, but my painting is finally finished.

Did you use a different kind of paper? Some papers are not appropriate or amenable to use of masking fluid. Artists have been struggling with this for ages. . . I wish I had a magic wand for you!
