Up until a few weeks ago, you could have heard me shout "It's A Wonderful Life" almost any night from the Rear Window of my house. But something really strange happened to our family that went down in the annals of Crimes and Misdemenors of the century.
I was working undercover as a Communist For the FBI back then and had just finished a grueling 48 hour shift. On the drive home I was looking forward to some Love, Valour, Compassion and a delicious homecooked TV dinner when I walked through the front door. And I Remember, Momma was standing inside the living room at the screened window shouting "God is Great, and I'm Not!" over and over again for all of my nosey neighbors to hear. Hurriedly I parked the car in the driveway and ran to the house just in time to hear the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoids identical twins next door shout, "Momma Mia! Keep that sermonizing down! Let us have some peace and quiet for The Remains of The Day!"
"Yes", I thought to myself, "I'd like some of that too."
As soon as I got inside the house I could smell the wonderful aroma of a TV dinner cooking inside the oven. Ahh, my wife sure knows how to whip up a good meal!
I had walked over to Momma to get her settled in her rocking chair, when all of a sudden there came a loud sound of breaking glass from the Rear Window and several loud thumps. The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies, who were my undercover informants came crashing down on the floor, then stumbled into the living room. "Boss, hey boss!" one of them exclaimed and shambled over to where I was holding Momma's hand. The leader of The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies started pointing a half shredded finger towards the house next door. "It's them!" he cried. "The Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoids that you have for neighbors are the ones leaking the government secrets!"
I was dubvious about what he was saying, didn't quite trust The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies; they just weren't all that realiable.
"But Boss! It's them! I swear, God Is Great and I'm Not, it's true!"
And then I saw it. One of The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies informants was reaching into the stove and helping himself to my TV dinner. MY TV DINNER! The informant was tripping over himself trying to get back through the Rear Window.
"STOP!" I shouted. "You Can't Take It With You! That's mine!" I hurled Momma's pillow at his legs and The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies informant fell to the floor with a loud splat! My beautiful wonderful smelling TV dinner slid harmlessly into the wall.
Then it struck me. This wasn't about the Evil, Mutant, Hellbound, Flesh-Eating Subhumanoids neighbors of mine stealing government secrets. Not at all! This was a ruse! It was a well planned and thought out diversion by The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies gang to commit a grossly wicked,reprehensible and heinous crime. They had conspired and plotted to steal my TV dinner.
Fortunately my lovely chef of a wife had been on her toes and dialed 911 as soon as she heard the Rear Window glass shatter. The local police arrived quickly and had everything sorted out and were placing all of The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies gang perpetrators into the paddy wagon for transport to the county jail.
A few minutes later, I sat down at the table with my lovely brave chef of a wife. As I inhaled the wafting aroma of the TV dinner, I said "Momma Mia, It's a Wonderful Life afterall," and ate that delicous TV dinner with gusto and glee!
