Subaru fuel pump problems?
My '98 impreza is having knock sensor errors, hesitation going up hill, sometimes a little shimmy when accelerating or idling, and power loss (especially uphill and when i get to the bottom of my tank. I changed the fuel filter, it was clogged as crap, however its still running this way. could it be the fuel pump?
Your car is over 10 years old. When was the last time you gave it a full tune-up? That means changing spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, pcv valve, egr valve, fuel filter (which you already did), etc... It's possible that your spark plugs are gunked up because you were burning the gas at the bottom of your gas tank. It's usually best not to run your car until near empty because you have a lot of sediment in your gas tank that gets sucked up and clogs up your fuel filter and and oxidizes your spark plug tips. I'm thinking it could be as simple as changing out the spark plugs that will fix your problems. They're cheap and pretty easy to do if you're mechanically inclined...if not, any guy into cars should be able to help you. You can also buy a couple bottles of fuel injection cleaner as well to clean out your fuel lines. Pour in a bottle with each full tank of gas...do it 2-3 times in a row and that should clean out your lines.
