How can I change the admin's name in Ubuntu?
I've made a custom distro with remastersys (gorgeous tool!!!) and I'd love to change the administrator's name when I install that distro to another pc. The install procedure allows me to set a new user name and password but on reboot it goes back to what i'd set during my first installation. How can I do that? Thanx a lot.
Root should usually always be the only admin on a home computer. It is a LOT safer this way. If you're only going to install it onto that one computer, then I'd say backup any files from the user's home directory, log in as root through gdm, and run:
# userdel -r USERNAME
obviously replacing USERNAME with the user you want to get rid of.
and then re-add the user to your preference. through the GUI would be easiest.
If you want that user to have admin rights run:
# visudo
and add:
USERNAME ALL=(ALL) ALL
under where it says
root ALL=(ALL) ALL
Again, replacing USERNAME with the new user.
Then you should be able to use sudo with that user.
