Jeep Grand Wagoneer engine question?
I am trying to decide whether to do it myself or have my mechanic do it. I can get a long block for $1-2K, delivered free. I'd also like to get a rebuilt 727 transmission at the same time and install both engine and transmission. So I have several questions. My engine knowledge is probably a 3 out of 10. I'm not a complete idiot, but I'm not an engine mechanic. Is this something I can do it my garage, myself? Or is it out of the question. I'd pull the engine and transmission, use the old engine as a guide and replace/transfer from the old to the new, add the new transmission to the new engine and reinstall. Sounds simple but I know it's not. I'd need help with setting the distributor, timing, bleeding air from the cooling system and priming the oil pump prior to starting. Does that sound right? I'd like to save "some" money in labor fees to get a few extras once I'm done. Does this sound feasable or more like a pipe dream? Thanks!
if you know 3 out of 10 dont do it you need atleast 9 of 10
if you want to change it you need to take off motor mounts transmission mounts unhook all the transmission cooling lines all the air intake lines fuel system lines coolant lines you have to take off the belts you have to unhook all the wiring harnesses also
that is just the removal
then you have to get an engine crate hook up your transmisison to your engine then place thhe engine and transmission in then put in all the motor mounts transmission mounts wiring harnesses fuses cooling lines air intake fuel system belts timing
im pretty sure you dont know how to do that and you need a lot of toolsso you can screw things torque things to tthe right torque setting a lot of things i wouldnt recommend doing it
