How do you fix a chipped pint glass?
I have pint glass that has a small chip out of the lip. I don't want to throw it out, is there a way to smooth it out, or fill it in so that it won't cut you if you drink from it? Also, how do I keep a chip from cracking, or a crack that's already there from spreading?
I use a wet belt sander . Starting with 120 grit sand paper you grind the glass down past the chip and or past the crack. Then you use 220 grit paper and finally 400 grit paper . Then to polish the glass back to a shine you use a cork wheel with pumice . I use 3f pumice with a little water in mix it so it looks like a milk shake. With a brush you apply the pumice to the wheel. If the glass is a lead crystal you will need to do a additional step . The final polish with a felt wheel and cerium oxide .
