I obviously didn't get the codes read by taking it to the dealer. When the light came on I was driving on the freeway with the tow/haul button on. When I accelerated it hesitated puffed a little smoke and then took off. My truck hardly ever smokes, weird I know. Then the turbo started sticking and fluttering for about 10 miles. Then it all went away, about 200 miles later the engine light turns off on its own. What could that be? Has 61K miles. 4x4. I do maintain my vehicle myself, I do use good fuel, and I do use diesel clean. I have had all the updates done through ford. I have had the head gaskets, all egr parts have been changed out twice, got a new turbo that still tends to stick if I drive it more that 500 miles at a time then when I return to the dealership it always checks out OK. Give me your input why this might be happening. I have heard plenty of "because you bought a ford" stuff so let it go.
the variable geometry turbo (VGT) has adjustable vanes, all controlled by a solenoid from the ECM. the solenoid is probably stuck, its hardly ever the turbo that fails. you can change it yourself or take it to a diesel shop or the dealer.
