Moving long distance, and taking my fish with me.?
I am moving from Iowa to Oregon in a few weeks. I am wanting to take my fish and everything with me. I am renting a moving truck also to take my stuff, and the fish. I have 12 african cichlids, 2 smaller plecos, and a dragon goby. I want them to do well on the trip and make it to my destination fine. What is the best way to get them there safe? I do have access to the styrofoam coolers, and the insulation big bags, (look like the things you put in your cars window to keep sun from entering), because I work at Petsmart. Should I use these, and also get heat packs or will that make the temperature increase too much in the coolers? Should I bag all fish seperately to be safe? What are your recommendations? The temps while traveling will be about 45-65 degrees depending on the conditions.
also should I use Kordon bags?
it will be about a 2 day trip and im not sure there will be room in the heated part of the moving vehicle as my mom, my 115lb dog, and me will be riding up front.
When you say you are moving far, does that mean the fish will need to be packed for many days, or just an all day trip, or what?
If the coolers will be exposed to 45 degree temps for more then a few minutes at a time heat packs become necessary, but if the cooler will for the most part be in a heated truck and other heated places, then they are not necessary. If you are using the coolers then you can get away with using regular fish bags, but as long as your insulation bags are meant for fish, they can work too.
But the best way to pack the fish also depends on just how far you are going.
