Can a cracked spark plug cause a misfire or is it the air filter?
Hi gang, I got a used '07 Mercedes with 10,065 on the odometer and I decided to give it a tune up. I got some plugs and when I installed them one cracked, so I super glued it back together (the white part). I now cant get my new sticker for my license plates because my check engine light is on. I took it to autozone for a free scan and they said it was my O2 sensor, so I got one from them and changed it out myself. Well after I went back to autozone so they can reset my light, I drove it and went to get my tags and it they failed me again, they said I have a misfire code on cylinder #6. That is the one that is cracked, should I replace it or call their manager out to condemn it in person? I think the emissions place is lying to me.
yep, cracked plug Will.
Do it every time. You can glue all you want, but once the airgap is there, only ceramic will hold the spark in.
Have someone have the car in drive with the brake on and rev it up to about 2000 rpm and you spray some water around it, you will see the 4th of july!
In a pinch situation like yours I even used epoxy and it wouldnt hold the spark back from arching under a load.
