My air pump belt broke and I can't get one right away?
This is a 74 Datsun B210, 1.4Liter . Can I drive this without damaging the engine? I understand the purpose of the air pump is to pump air into the air filter assembly to increase the pressure and improve either mileage or emissions. The engine does sound different when running. It sounds kind of like there is an exhaust leak but that doesn't make sense unless the air pump also pumps air into the exhaust manifold.....hmmm Any help will be greatly appreciated..
its only for emissions, it will not damage the engine!!! This is how it works.

But, 1974 is exempt from any emissions testing, so just delete the air pump all together!
