can you clean an egr valve?
i have a 1992 corsica with a 3.1 ltr i know the egr valve is malfunctioning its 169.99 at autozone. is there any way i can avoid replacing it maybe by cleaning it, i mean the car is only worth around 400.00
Cleaning it is always a first option. As your car is almost 20 years old, odds are good that it has loads of carbon buildup in the EGR. Try to scrape off as much as you can with a small pocketknife or wire brush, and then spray it with carb cleaner...or better yet let it soak in a container of it overnight.
Aside from your time, this method will cost you significantly less than the cost of a new EGR. Remember that the 3.1 was used in lots of GM cars, so another cheap alternative would be to pick one up from a donor car at the local Pick Your Part.
