I completed the necessary repairs on my Bronco where the OBD-II found problems. The EGR sensor had to be replaced and my check engine light bulb was burned out.
Now I can't figure out how to complete the drive cycle so the vehicle can be retested for emissions. I've read several suggestions on how to complete the drive cycle, however I haven't been able to find any that are specific to a 1996 Bronco...and I don't want to waste a tank of gas if I can avoid it. The plates are already expired so it's very difficult to drive it 'around town' for 500 miles.
OBD II Drive cycles consequently take a bit of drive time to complete. The on-board computer typically looks for a short period of stop and go driving with a speed not exceeding 45 mph, and then a longer period of sustained speed of 55 mph or higher, followed by another short period of stop and go. Now these are all variables that can differ from manufacturer programming, so the only real way to verify a completed drive cycle is to check with factory specifications and monitor drive cycle status on an OBD compliant scan tool.
