Door Gutter Seal

Sealing up a private drain?
Hi
I have a drain which is shared with the property just behind mine. The main pipe comes down from their property with all their sewage and waste water, and is joined further down by a small pipe leading from my rain water grill, which is next to my back door. My sewage and waste water go off down separate pipes, not connected to theirs. In other words my only 'contribution' to the shared drain is the rainwater that comes from my gutter. I want to block off my rainwater grill and divert the drainpipe above it to an adjacent grill, so that the main pipe running down beside my property will carry their waste only, and will therefore no longer be a shared drain, and sole responsibility for its upkeep will rest with the property behind mine. Can you tell me if I am legally entitled to do this? Many thanks.
It is good practice to test the drainage before any back-filling and Building Control can, and generally will, ask to witness a test. This can be carried out in two ways - both sealing of the drainage system to enable pressure to be built up in it.
