Need full Quarter Horse bars?
I have a high withered quarter horse. In the picture i supplied, im not even joking, his withers are amybe and inch shorter. thats how high they are. he doesn't have back problems, been looked at by an equine chiropractor, he just has high withers. So i was riding the other day and all of the sudden he reared up then came down on all fours and just did a spread eagle i swear, so i jumped off, switched saddles and he was fine. Just to make sure it wasnt a spook, i rode him by the place he reared and he didn't even bat an eye. So do yall think i need full QH bars or what. its extremely hard to find a 17" saddle with full QH bars in my area. Is there an alternative like a special pad or something so i don't have to buy a new saddle?? thanks for any advice!!! Heres the link. im not joking, my guy has withers an inch shorter that this one!!!!

My Arabian gelding is built similarly. An Arabian saddle tree is very similar to a full qh tree in that the bars are less angled to accommodate the wider back. The Arab saddles are shorter through the skirts to accommodate the shorter Arab back. Since Arabians are built so differently, with the barrel shape behind the withers, the saddles are often better at fitting a wide back behind a high withers. My horse fits both some Arab saddles and some semi qh bars saddles.
I would guess that your horse might not fit a full hq bars saddle very well. If your saddle is too wide, it sits on the withers. But an Arabian saddle might fit him, or if his back is not all that wide, a semi qh bars tree might work by elevating the gullet higher at the front since the tree is more angled.
You haven't said what tree you have now, which would help to figure it out. I would suggest you google saddle fitting, and find a good instructional site to guide you through assessing the fit of the saddle you have now.
Also, you can by a template at most tack stores to place on your horse and mould it to the shape, and then use it to choose a saddle fit.
