P1406 code for 1996 Cadillac Eldorado?
My check engine light recently came on and I read my codes and the only code to show was a P1406. I know this is a manufactures specificc code. I took my EGR off and cleaned it carefully with carb cleaner. What else can I check to avoid a $400 bill at the dealership?
well its a digital egr it may have electical fault out of range or pintle position out of range, the carbon that builds up on pintle will need to be scraped or chiped of not sprayed with cleaner, the only other thing you can do by yourself is take a coat hangar and try to clean the port passage that it mounts on, not the tube going to exaust but the port going to intake, it will build up with carbon and plug solid causing insufficient flow code, try to break carbon loose ans vaccum it out, it will be as hard as a rock not easy to break up but can be done, the port should enter intake behind throttle body some times you can open throttle plates by hand and look in and see the carbon blob obstucting port chip it away.
