Leak in trunk of BMW Z3, top seal is the problem, how to fix?
I asked the question a while back and heard from Vaughn C who knows his stuff. Is there an easy way to fix this? He mentioned silicone, perhaps I will look into that. How much would it cost to get this repaired? Any thoughts?
I was hoping someone would give you some better suggestions than mine. The link below is to a Z3 message board that I visit often. I suggest that you ask the question there to see if anyone can help with a procedure that worked for them.
The "right" way to fix the leak is to remove the sealing ring and replace it with a new one. However, the cost to do that is almost the same as the cost to replace the top.
Anyway, click on the link below, register (it's free - don't join the "inner circle"), then click on "Post New Message" with a title something like; "Have Top Leak, Need Help", then describe your problem in the body of the message, something like, "...top is leaking between the seal and the body under the rear window ...", or something similar. Then ask if anyone has some suggestions on how to fix it. Hopefully someone will respond with something useful.
I post there under the name "vnc". I'll try to help you get some suggestions if no one responds.
